Dr. Melanie A. Croy has been an educator for 29 years. She has taught students from Pre-K through university graduate students. Dr. Croy's areas of interest include sport psychology, sport sociology, sport pedagogy, and therapeutic recreation. As an undergraduate student earning bachelors degrees in psychology and physical education, she became interested in the mind-body connection in relation to sport performance and exercise psychology. She continues to teach, work, and study in these areas today. She is currently teaching Advanced Human Growth and Development to graduate students online. Dr. Croy is a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS). She has worked with individuals who have experienced traumatic brain injury, stroke, spinal cord injury, visual impairments, hearing impairments, mental retardation, and mental illness. She has experience working with individuals in community rehabilitation facilities and hospital behavioral health units. Dr. Croy has also worked with adolescents in foster care at two residential treatment facilities in Texas.
In addition to her work as a CTRS and NCC, Dr. Croy has worked with athletes, musicians, and dancers in the area of performance enhancement. She has worked with athletes and coaches in a variety of sports, including tennis, volleyball, basketball, track and field, cross-country, cycling, softball, and golf. Dr. Croy has worked with pianists and dancers, helping them to enhance their performance and teaching them to use various strategies to overcome performance-related anxiety.
